If you’ve used HigherMe before, you already know that we make it easy to apply to tons of jobs at once with just one profile (you can make an account here)!
But let’s talk how you can wow your boss once you’ve aced that interview and gotten the job. We asked employers what they love to see in their customer-facing employees, and here’s what they said:
First impressions are everything
Once you’re on the clock, you represent the brand. Your behaviour affects how the customer perceives their experience. Greet people the way you would a guest in your house: be friendly, hospitable, and don’t forget to smile!
Honesty is the best policy
Customers and bosses appreciate honesty. If you don’t know the answer, don’t make one up! Be honest and find out the right answer the first time to avoid making critical mistakes.
Make yourself useful
In hourly industries, there’s almost always something to be done next. Have a sense of urgency at work. Managers appreciate when you’re on the ball and taking initiative to act without directions.
Focus on the customer’s needs
When you come to work, switch gears as soon as you come in the door. Empathize with the customer and tailor your service to match their wants. Strive for timely, quality service all the time. If you go above and beyond for customers, they’ll rave about the company and score you bonus points with your boss.
Learn how to deal with different types of difficult situations. When a problem arises, remember the HEART acronym: hear, empathize, apologize, resolve, and finally, thank the customer. Keep being patient and understanding!
Most customer service jobs depend on your being there and grinding through your to-do list. Show up on time and be consistently reliable!
A positive, bubbly attitude is infectious! If you’re having fun, your coworkers and customers will have fun too.
